The First Eurasian International Commercial Mediation Competition

The First Eurasian International Commercial Mediation Competition took place in the town of Svetlogorsk (Kaliningrad region, Russia) from May 27 till May 31, 2014.  This Competition was part of the School of the Young Scientist regularly held by the Institute of Legislation and Comparative Law with the Government  of the Russian Federation. The Competition was organized by the Baltic Fishing Fleet State Academy of and Russian Academy of National Economy and Public Administration.

This is the first international mediation competition for the Russian-speaking participants. At the end of each round all competitors, judges and mediators were invited to provide their feed- back and share their impressions. This opportunity transformed the contest in the full-scale professional training. It is worth noticing that the Rules of the majority of similar competitions do not provide for a possibility of exchanging feed-back from all participants.

The purpose of the Competition is to contribute to the popularization of mediation as a dispute resolution method in the intercultural business environment, to train the specialists in the use of negotiation procedures. The competing teems of the universities were composed of the client and the accompanying mediation advisor (lawyer), the mediator was representing the third university. In case of dead-lock the young mediator could recur to the assistance of the colleague – professional mediator. Professional mediators were invited to act as judges.

The next competition is scheduled for September 22-26, 2015.




On April 17, 2014 the Second International Forum ‘EURASIAN ECONOMIC PROSPECTIVE” took place in the Saint-Petersbourg State University of Economics. Section “Legal mechanisms of formation of the Eurasian Economic Union” was presided by Dr. N. Doronina; the attendees have discussed the issued of development of the legal framework for economic freedoms within the framework of the united economic space. Issue of unification of legislation on ADR was approached by N.Semiliuytina and N.Gaidaenko Schaer in their presentations.


All-Russian Forum of Arbitration and Business Communities

All-Russian Forum of arbitration and business communities “Improvement of legislation on domestic and international arbitration: contemporary standards and approaches of the leading arbitration centers” was held in St Petersbourg in the Presidential Library named after B.N.Eltsin on July 4 and 5, 2013. Forum was dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the Russian Law “On International Commercial Arbitration”, 10th anniversary of the Federal Law “On arbitration courts in the Russian Federation”. Forum was organized by the journal “Arbitration” (Tretejskyi sud), St. Petersbourg State University, Supreme Commercial (Arbitrazh) Court of Russia, Сhamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation, Russian center of promotion of arbitration proceedings and other organizations and institutions interested in the promotion of arbitration. May 22, 2013 : Round table on Family Law and Mediation

On May 22, 2013 Center for Promotion of Mediation and Alternative Dispute Resolution (SOMEDIARS) with the Institute of Legislation and Comparative Law organized a round table dedicated to «Modern Topics of Family Law and Practical Issues of Family Mediation». The first part of this event was dedicated to the legal disputes arising from family relationship, during the second part professional mediators (lawyers and psychologists) exchanged their experience and shared their professional tips and skills in short master classes.
